The River History

The live Broadway spectacular known as The River features an unforgettable story and even more powerful characters in a story designed to captivate audiences of all types. The show is set to premier in the fall of 2014 and feature the talents of award winning actors including Tony Award winner Hugh Jackman.The River, directed by Ian Rickson is a follow up to the Tony-Award nominated production Jerusalem and will also feature the work of Jez Butterworth behind the story. The story of The River follows a man and a woman in a remote cabin on the cliffs during a moonless night. The show will also feature the talents of Laura Donnelly and Cush Jumbo. The performance-driven piece also features original music from Stephen Warbeck. The play features the characteristic twists and turns that Butterworth’s productions are so well known for and tension-filled scenes designed to keep audiences attempting to figure out the mystery until the very last scene.The River is a supernatural thriller that not only explores the romance of the lead characters but the possible presence of ghosts. As the story unfolds on a remote rural setting, an unnamed man and his new girlfriend must face certain mysteries as they attempt to go night-fishing along the depths of the mysterious river outside the cabin. The story is dripping with mystery and suspense that keeps audiences guessing and on the edge of their seats as they attempt to determining what is the truth and what mysteries are being kept hidden.The River is scheduled to take place at the Circle in the Square Theatre with official previews for the show starting on October 31st, the opening scheduled for November 16th and the closing date in place for January 25th, 2015. The limited engagement play is a shorter production, running only an hour and 20 minutes. This production not only marks the return of another Jez Butterworth story, but also the return of Hugh Jackman to the Broadway Stage.
