Urinetown History

Urinetown is a three-time Tony Award-winner about a drought stricken town, an evil corporation and a Romeo and Juliet love story. Set in a Gotham-like city overwrought by ecological disaster, Urinetown is a tale of greed, corruption, love and revolution in a time when water is worth its very weight in gold, according to the tour announcement. A depletion of the Earth's water supply has led to a government-enforced ban on private toilets. The privilege to pee is regulated by a single, malevolent corporation that profits by charging admission for one of mankind's most basic needs.

The show will move on to Seattle, Chicago, Boston, Toronto, Los Angeles, Washington, D.C. and Cleveland in the coming year, with more cities to be announced soon.

The cast includes Tom Hewitt as the avuncular narrator, Officer Lockstock; Ron Holgate as Caldwell B. Cladwell, the greedy corporate villain; Beth McVey as Penelope Pennywise; Christiane Noll as Cladwell's naive daughter, Hope; Charlie Pollack as Bobby Strong; and Meghan Strange as Little Sally, the wise-beyond-her-years fellow narrator.

The Broadway production of the show continues at the Henry Miller Theatre.
