An astonishing array of musical greats including Bruce Springsteen, Pearl jam, The Dixie Chicks, Bonnie Raitt, John Mellencamp, Baby Face, Sheryl Crow, Crosby, Stills & Nash and many more issued a remarkable joint declaration. Believing that the November 2004 Presidential election is 'the most important of our lifetime,' this loose coalition of musicians has embarked on a series of mini-tours, mixing and matching with each other in 15 states where the voting is likely to be close.
The 'Vote for Change' tour was born because participating performers wanted to take action upon their deep conviction that this country desperately needs the change in direction represented by John Kerry. To that end, proceeds from the concerts will be donated to America Coming Together (ACT), 'the largest voter contact program in history.' ACT promotes progressive candidates at all levels of government. Another organization called MoveOnPAC, a group advocating Democracy in Action, will act as presenters at venues ranging from Florida to Washington State. Other performers include Dave Matthews Band, R.E.M, Jackson Brown, James Taylor, Death Cab for Cutie, Ben Harper, Jurassic 5, My Morning Jacket, Keb'Mo', Bright Eyes, and John Prine.
Excitement is building! Ticket-holders know they are going to see world-class concerts, and that they will be a part of history in the making. This is our country at its finest, a musical testament to the first Amendment.
